Have a Conversation

Have you ever wondered, “What is the process to consign my sports cards?”

It starts with a conversation over the phone. Email and texting may be good at other times. In this vital first step, we need to have person-to-person contact.

You need to understand who we are and what we do. We need to understand who you are and what your objectives are. With that as a basis, we can decide together whether we want to go to step two in the process.

Strategic Implementation

ML acquires your cards in a manner that has been decided together as part of the strategy.  You may be sending in a small portion, or an entire collection as agreed.  ML may be coming to you to pick-up.  Once the cards are acquired, the strategic plan of action will be implemented.

This could involve selling the sports cards online through an auction or a private sale. Nonetheless, we ensure it is the best consignment option for you.

FAQ

It starts with taking a deep breath and slowing down to take the time to do due diligence.  You need to get to know us.  We are a father and son owned operation.  We have a unique program including listing your cards on eBay with the fixed price option to eliminate the unpredictable and sometimes undesirable consequences in auctions.  We want to have a chance to explain how that works to your benefit.  We also fix cards (corners, creases) and can send cards for grading (PSA,SGC, Beckett) when the result will be a much higher price.  There is much to discuss.

We need to get to know you and understand your objectives.

Once the conversations have occurred and a relationship based upon transparency and a shared knowledge base has been established, we can decide together if we have a good fit to work together.

If we decide together and move forward, we will tailor a marketing plan for your cards that we will manage as fiduciaries to maximize your return.  The program for you will be exclusive to your needs and cards and we do not put everyone into a preconceived box. We have the flexibility to handle your relationship as a client not a customer.  There is a big difference.  You become a strategic partner in the process.

The payment process is flexible to meet your need.  Generally, we make an electronic payment monthly (Venmo, Zelle, Cash App).  We can make more frequent payments like weekly and in some cases, we can advance payments before items are sold.

It should be noted that when appropriate we will come to you and pick up the cards.  Alternatively, you can drop them off.

We will GO LIVE all at once or in phases depending on the marketing strategy our client has agreed to with us.  The needs of the client are paramount in making these determinations.

Great question.  We will take the time to educate our client in this whole matter of fees and how it affects the process.  We are often able to provide reduced fees or no fees with innovative techniques that we will explain in detail.

We have several ways to get your benefit by selling those cards in bulk or donating to worthy causes like Children’s Hospital, Etc.  Some projects take weeks, and some go on for more than a year.  We will do everything possible to realize your objectives.

We will take the time to review the collection and assist you in deciding what to send.  No minimums or Maximums.  We can do one card or many thousands.

Yes, we can do that and advise that the cards when sent to us are carefully protected.  Sometimes it makes sense to top load before you send them.  We will advise on that based upon condition and objectives.

Yes, when it makes sense.

Yes, and we monitor page views and make offers too.

The only taxes on eBay are sales taxes when applicable and are the responsibility of the buyer.  We play by the eBay rules and use best practice in carrying out our four-focus winning strategy.  The seller (you) wins, we win, eBay wins and the buyer on eBay wins.  Remember we also sell off of eBay to our private clients and use other platforms when appropriate.

Sports card consignment is the process of selling sports cards through a third party, such as a consignment service or auction house. In this case, ML Sports Cards Plus would be your consignment partner. We allow you to sell your sports cards without managing the sale yourself, while we handle listing, selling, and shipping.  Unlike most other consignment services, ML can manage your cards with FIXED PRICE listings in addition to auction type.

We’ve outlined the step-by-step process above. Our service appraises, lists, and sells your sports cards on your behalf, often through online sports card marketplaces or auctions. After the sale, you receive payment minus consignment fees.

For you, it’s hassle free! We use our expertise, credentials, reputation, and professional marketing to access a larger pool of buyers, and potentially higher selling prices. You avoid the hassle of selling cards yourself, as we manage the entire transaction from listing to final sale.

To consign sports cards, reach out to us using our contact form. We’ll initiate a conversation as outlined above in Step 1 of our process. After submitting your cards, we will evaluate them, handle listing through their auction platform or marketplace, and manage the sale to ensure a successful transaction.

Our fees are tailored to the individual consignment.  The fees are higher if we “manage” the assets with FIXED FEE listing, evaluation of raw cards for grading, etc.  ML will discuss this with you.  Generally, with asset management a much larger return is acquired for the Consignor (YOU).

For auction type listings we only accept cards that can start on auction at a minimum of $5.00.

Check out our consignment fee table.

The time to sell sports cards through consignment varies, depending on the popularity and value of the cards and most importantly the selling strategy the ML and YOU decide on.  Some cards may sell within days of being listed on a sports card marketplace, usually 7-10 days through auction formats.  If cards are sent to grading; months to sell as grading times typically is 45-60 days with PSA and is somewhat faster with SGC.

High-value, rare, or vintage sports cards, particularly graded cards, are ideal for consignment. Cards of popular players, rookie cards, and complete sets tend to attract more attention from buyers in sports card marketplaces and auctions.

You can consign your sports cards through various platforms, including online sports card consignment services, auction houses, or even local card shops. Reputable services like ML, with a large network of buyers, will give your cards better visibility and a higher chance of selling and at a higher price.

To estimate the value of your sports cards, research recent sales on sports card marketplaces like eBay or auction sites. Getting your cards graded can also increase their value and give you a clearer idea of what they might sell for in a consignment sale.  ML can provide advisories on this methodology.

Each consignment is unique and is evaluated without preset qualifications.

If your card/s do not sell we can make an offer to buy them from you or ship them back to you at your option.

Yes, you can consign both graded and ungraded sports cards. However, graded sports cards typically sell for higher prices, as their condition is verified by professional grading services like PSA or Beckett, making them more attractive to collectors.  That is the main driver in ML taking the time to evaluate your cards for grading.

Selling sports cards outright means you sell them directly to us for a set price, often resulting in faster payment but lower returns. Our sports card consignment allows you to reach more buyers through a marketplace or auction, potentially resulting in higher sale prices, though the process takes longer.  ML will discuss your needs and objective and include You in determining the best strategy for your consignment.

ML has a shipping division that gets the cards shipped expeditiously and packed for safe arrival.  Shipping is paid for by buyers and ML will insure any item over $100 that is not covered by carrier at ML’s cost.

Individualized and personal service is the key.  Do not become a number.  With ML you will have a reachable by phone, text or email account rep that will respond with urgency to your inquiries and questions and comments through the entire process.  ML will take the time to know you and establish a relationship based upon transparency and effective and timely communication.

You will be sent a sales journal with updates on a regular basis and can reach out at anytime to get an update.  You will be able to track what is happening with you cards on the platforms that are employed in your consignment strategy.

Each client is given documentation and access to see their cards.  If the items are listed on eBay as fixed price listings, which is one of our unique service offerings in lieu of auctions, the cards will appear in our eBay store so you can see them.  If alternative platforms are used with your approval, the process can be a little different and will result in the same end state.  You will be able to view and monitor your items.

The final selling price of your sports cards in consignment depends on several factors, including card condition, rarity, player popularity, and market demand. Cards that are graded by professional services or feature top athletes like Michael Jordan or Tom Brady often command higher prices.

Most consignment services with promote like ML does, offering the items in a private network of thousands of “followers”, social media posts, direct email outreach for instance sending email to a targeted group of eBay buyers.  There is much more that goes into it that we can tell you about.

While sports card consignment offers many benefits, there are some risks, such as cards not selling or fetching lower-than-expected prices when auctions are used. Additionally, there’s always a slight risk of damage or loss during shipping, though our consignment services will cover any loss of item or damage with insurance.

You are protected.

Once your sports cards are sold through consignment, ML consignment service deducts agreed upon fees and makes payment in a form and schedule that you have specified.
