You knew when Joe Burrow changed his haircut to an all blonde buzzcut it was getting ready to be football season. As most of you know football games are played on a week-to-week basis and what does that mean for card values?
An incredibly fluctuating market.
Active players are mostly like stocks. If a player throws for 4 touchdowns and 350 yards and his team wins, expect that player’s card to go up in value. The rarer the card, the higher the price will go up. A great example of this was rookie of the year phenom C.J Stroud. C.J, had one of the best rookie seasons of all time. Throwing for 4,000+ yards, 23 passing touchdowns, and winning a playoff game. From this, everyone and their mother wanted a C.J Stroud rookie card!
Also knowing the time to sell is very important if you are not a collector and looking to profit from an investment. Different types of investments on cards. Short term, midterm, and a long-term hold. Of course these are my opinions. An example of this would be how I bought a 2020 Panini Prizm Joe Burrow RPA /99 SGC 9.5 during the off season of the 2023-2024 season for $1,800. Before the season started, I moved the card for $3,000. He had a terrible start to the season and then eventually was shut down for the season because of an injury.
Now I love Joe Burrow! But holding that card until the following season started would of kept $1,800 in a card that I considered at the time a short term investment. Basically, I wanted to get the card and re sell it before the season started. Mission accomplished.
